BIOGRAPHY
I was born in Butte, Montana and spent most of my early years in New Jersey where my father was stationed at McGuirre Air Force Base. We returned to Montana when my father and mother divorced. We moved to Helena where I was educated from Junior High School to High School. After graduation, I attended the University of Montana where I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Geology.
After graduating and doing a short project in Eastern Montana for the National Science foundation, I went to work for a subsidiary of the Burlington Northern Railroad as a uranium geologist providing geologic mapping from Dickinson, North Dakota to Custer, Montana and from Watford City, North Dakota to Belle Fourche, South Dakota. That project lasted for almost 5 years while I lived in Billings, Montana.
In 1979, I was hired by Western Energy Company (a subsidiary of the Montana Power Company) to do uranium exploration. In 1981, I was asked to transfer to Texas to do coal exploration and development for a sister subsidiary called Northwestern Resources Company. While in Texas, I was able to obtain a Master Degree in Business Administration from Sam Houston State University while attending school at night. During the last five years in Texas, I transitioned from geological exploration to landowner relations and lands and leases.
In 1996, I was able to return to Montana where I accepted a position in Contracts and Lands and Leases. I provided the liaison role for landowner relations and lease acquisitions and wrote contracts for the Engineering and Environmental Department at the Rosebud Mine until I retired in 2019.
I am a conservative Christian man and I view my role in society as that of a servant. I believe it is my responsibility to work hard and to provide my efforts to make my community a better place. I have worked as an auctioneer (though not a very good one) and raised monies for families that are suffering with significant medical issues. I have served on the Board for my church for a number of years, spent over a decade serving on the board for the Colstrip Parks and Recreation District and I have served on the Planning Board for the City of Colstrip.
I decided to run for the House of Representatives for District 39, because I am ready to serve the people in my District. I believe in and will support jobs and economic development. I will stand firm on the retention of the second amendment. I will strive to learn more about and support the farmers and ranchers in District 39.
I have had the privilege to be married to a wonderful woman who provided a superior level of elementary education to hundreds of children over a forty year career. Over the course of that 40 years, I have gained a healthy respect for teachers, administrators and the educational system. I will continue to support a quality education for the children of Montana and I will support those who provide that education.
Spanning a period of forty years and serving in both Texas and Montana, I have officiated Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Track and Field and Girls Fast Pitch Softball. When asked, I have also assisted with judging for 4H and Speech and Drama.
Even though our State Constitution mandates that the State Budget must be balanced, I will remain vigilant that there can be no change to that Constitutional mandate.
I am not a seasoned politician, but I am a committed servant. I believe in solid Montana values that support the families of this State. I believe in hard work and democratic capitalism. I pledge to my constituents that my time in the Legislature will be focused and my efforts will be diligent about learning and scrutinizing legislation that will come before the House for a vote.
I don’t plan to start a new career. I believe that I should go and serve and step aside for a solid future servant to represent the people of this district.
